Domestic Violence Floating Support - Bury

A new and much needed service for Women experiencing Domestic Violence in Bury has been opened by Women’s Housing Action Group (WHAG).

Women’s Housing Action Group is a well established voluntary organisation that has been working with women in Bury for a year and in Rochdale for 29 years

This new service for Bury went live on Monday 5th October 2009. The service will offer support to women experiencing Domestic Violence enabling them to leave a perpetrator and live safely. The service will offer support on accessing legal services as well as supporting women in practical matters such as, budgeting, life skills, accessing training, education and employment, confidence building and promoting independence.

The project will offer a high quality service to women to complement the service already being offered including drop-in sessions at community centers around the borough.
Women who speak Urdu or Punjabi will be supported by a bi-lingual worker.

The project is being funded through Bury Council via the Supporting People Programme and referrals are being taken through Bury Council’s Central Access Point.

WHAG’s Managing Director Kirsty Rhodes comments “This is an exciting time in WHAG’s development and as a voluntary sector organisation we are keen to work in partnership with local businesses to promote both businesses and develop social awareness”.
